UNTHINKABLE:
Last week we had an unthinkable tragedy happen in my hometown of Algona. Kevin Cram, a police officer, was shot and killed in the line of duty. He leaves behind his wife and three children. He is the 219th officer to have been killed in the line of duty in Iowa.
Community: The response by our community was incredible. Blue ribbons were hung on every tree and post in town. I have often thought of the story Fred Rodgers told when seeing or hearing of a tragedy. His mother would tell him to “look for the helpers.” There were so many “helpers” on display this past week. In the mist of a horrific tragedy it was inspiring to see people from around the country rally and show their support.
