ONE BIG THING:
22 years ago life changed forever. Do you remember where you were when you heard the news on that fateful day? I was in 6th grade. That morning in homeroom a friend of mind told me that a plane had hit a building in New York. At that moment, I didn’t think much of it until the rest of the day, in every class, we watched live coverage as it unfolded. I remember vividly my social studies teacher saying that you will remember this day the rest of your life. He was right.
A quote from Deborah Eisenberg book “A Twilight of the Superhero’s” I think sums up how we as a country feel about 9/11.
In describing what a character experienced on that day she wrote “Oh, that day! One kept waiting-as if a morning would arrive from before that day to take them all on a different track. One kept waiting for that shattering day to unhappen, so that the real- the intended-future, the one that had been implied by the past, could unfold. Hour after hour, month after month, waiting for that day not to have happened. But it had happened. And now it was always going to have happened.”
It has now been long enough that a generation of Americans only know of 9/11 through videos, books and articles. Not unlike the generation after Pearl Harbor.
BEFORE YOU GO:
So on this day 9/11 also known as “Patriot Day” Let us remember those that were lost. Remember the first responders who went up into the towers never to return. Let’s not forget to thank the first responders that serve us today and everyday. And let’s remember how the country came together after that terrible day, to help their neighbors and fellow Americans in need. We need that more than ever today!
I have been fortunate to visit the 9/11 memorial a few times. It is a moving experience.
Here I am looking down at the Brooklyn Bridge from One World Trade Center . What a view!
ONE PICTURE FOR THE ROAD:
This picture hangs in my office. You can see the Twin Towers in the background.
+1 to all of that.
And please spare a thought for the flight crews who valiantly fought for us before we knew anything was wrong.
Great start! Thanks for sharing.
